Aki was born in Paris and grew up in Tokyo. Arnaud, northern France native, initially studied contemporary art in Belgium before moving to Paris. They met in Paris, while studying interior and product design at Ecole Camondo. Since they started their own design studio – A+A Cooren – in 1999, Aki and Arnaud have been working on interior design projects, objects, furniture and scenography. They draw from their mixed Japanese-French culture a minimal and simple design aesthetic which they seek to integrate via subtle references to nature in their creations.
Among their references : Shiseido, Artemide, L’Oréal, Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, Yamagiwa, Saint Louis, Boffi Bains, Cartier, Mobilier National et Vertigo Bird…
For NOMA, A+A Cooren designed SEN chair made of recycled steel wire and recycled plastic or wooden shells.
